Back in the groove...almost

Well I finally got back on the grinder today. Tried my first Bowie blank I had prepared...got it almost ready for hand sanding and then burned it up right at the ricasso...had the edge too thin :-/. Grabbed my next blank I had ready (drop point) and was still aggravated and ended up with a terrible grind...I mean terrible...so then I took a break, calmed down, and grabbed another Bowie blank. This one is ready for hand Sanding now after taking it to 400grit on the grizzly. Swedges are more difficult than I thought...of course it's also the first time I've done a clip point. And tips on grinding the swedge? I got it pretty good using the slack belt after practicing on the blank I burned up. On a positive note...the two jacked up blanks make excellent throwing knives...and was a good way to relieve my frustration lol.

The only guys that don't mess up once in a while (especially when grinding) are the guys sitting around doing nothing.

Mistakes happen, at least you keep forging ahead. As far as a swedge goes, I've only done 1 but I had pretty good success using one of the wheels on my belt sander.

Good work, it's all about learning what not to do, and being able to foresee what is going to happen. Only way to do that is by doing!
Keep grinding Sir!
