lemons into lemonade hunter
This is my " lemons to lemonade? Knife.
Forged 1084 with a sharp distal taper. 15n60 guard with coined SS spacer. Stabilized chery burl handle. Here is where the lemons come into play. I originally had a single 1/8" pin going through the Knife. But during multiple fittings I accidentally opened up one of the holes too much. Then I decided to countersink the hole after it was epoxied and set a diamond into each side of the handle, but I sunk too far. So I drilled a 1/4" hole to set a mosaic pin but the drill bit wasn't true and it cut an oval rather than a circle. I then sized up and drilled again with a 3/16" bit. Set the larger pin and let dry. Sanded the knife and realized the thin section of pin wasn't being held in. So I removed it and filled the hole with black acarglas. I am not liking the outcome, and was thinking about trying to break the handle off and start from scratch. My question is did I end up with lemonade or just a fugly knife? Sorry about the crappy pics i didn't feel like getting the light box set up for something I wasn't happy with. Last edited by Ray Rogers; 04-15-2015 at 08:25 AM. Reason: Fix picture link |

I don't think its ugly. I'd prefer a little more shape/contour to the handle but overall it looks like clean work and decent design. If your wife had that big black dot on her face we'd all say it was a beauty mark (or suffer the consequences)...

Usually professional stabilizing will fill all the cracks in a burl but not always. Sometimes you get a blackjack and sometimes you bust ....

I'd say it looks pretty #### good!
I've filled cracks with CA. Apply, let dry and sand. Repeat and build it up in layers. Seems to work okay. If you are totally not happy with it, I will PM you with my mailing address. :-) Dan |

Yeah, it looks pretty sweet to me man! If you're not crazy about it I'll take it off your hands too. That would be a sweet knife to carry hunting.
