Blade test.
Ok guys I tested this little blade. It's 1075 heat treat was 1475-1500 quenched in parks 50 tempered twice for an hour each time at 400f. I cut up a good size piece of cardboard, hacked on some walnut flooring and used a hammer to drive the blade into a treated 4x4 cutting big gouge in it, it would still shave after this. I then cut a nail using wood as a backer it rolled the edge a little. Then I cut a second one using a cent block as a backer and it gouged the blade about half the width of the nail. I them put it in a vice and broke it it bent about 10-15 degrees. Tell me what y'all think.

The grain looks nice but the steel seems to have indented and rolled over a bit so you might want to get it a little harder unless you are making a big chopper. You might want to get a bit more strength and less toughness by dropping your tempering temperature to 375?. That would be good for a regular working knife. For a big chopper I think what you did it was a good trade off between strength and toughness.

So for a big chopper I could leave it the same but on smaller blades temper it at 375 instead of 400

To get your megabytes back go to your User CP and look at the list of options on the left side. At the bottom is Attachments and clicking that will give you a list of every pic you have posted. Delete some of the older ones and regain the space ...
