Christmas gift completed

I finished the christmas gift i have been working on for a while.

I'm still selling at the material price for friends and family, since i don't feel like the quality is good enough to charge more than that.

I tried using corian for the first time. I't was a pain to work with hand tools, but i really really like the finish.

I did my best at a polished finish, it went okay but not complitely mirror. So i labeled it as semi polish ;-)

I'm still working on the makers mark. I'm having some issues with my DIY household tools, the etch gets a bit fuzzy.

Nice! Good job on that. I enjoy the feeling when they come together and can be marked as "done!"

I liked working the Corian, polishes easily too. I have a few out there with that.

Its a bit better in real life, its a horrible picture i took here :-(
I only have the tools to do ink transfer before the etch, and it just keep dissolving when i start the etch.

Oh, glad it's better than the picture. How exactly do you etch since you said ink transfer? Do you not use a stencil?

No i dont have a stencil. I print the logo invertet on shiny paper so i have a lot of printer ink around the logo. Then i Iron the paper on the blade so the ink transfer to the blade.

Then you should be able to electro etch without etching where the ink is. I think the problem is the electro etch heats the ink so it dissolves. I need to do some more tests. 🙂

Oh, I see. I use fingernail polish and my logo is a simple stylized JPM with the J and P being one image and the M under the P. With the way your logo is styled you definitely need a stencil. Here is a link to an American stencil maker and you can ask Ernie how much to send to Denmark. I wouldn't think it would be very expensive as it would only be a 216mmx280mm sized envelope.

Looks good Rasmus! I like the file work on the front of the guard. Interesting handle shape. Comfortable?

Can you describe how you do the logo? I'm not sure i completely understand how you use the nailpolish.

Thanks!

Yes its a very good shape for my hand. I keep trying to get the handle a bit higher and slimmer, but every time i sand off a bit to much :-)

The first style of this knife i mad had a much more pronouced downwards curve af the back of the handle, this is a more straight and feel better in the hand.

Using electrical tape I tape off a small area where I paint on some nail polish and when the polish dries I scratch my initials onto the blade and etch my initials with a 6 volt battery. Here's a link showing it using tape instead of polish.
