leverlock switchblades

Hi I am new to this forum. I'm trying to get used to the site it, looks like the switchblade forum is a small part of this huge site. Maybe another member will recognize me by my username, but are their any fans here of leverlock switchblades? I sure am, Thanks
Jeff

OK I give up, what is a leverlock switchblade. Can you show some pictures, especially of the mechanisms.
Thanks
Steve

photos of the mechanisms Steve, but as a collector I gather more info about them and only wish I had the skills to work on them. I have knife work done for me by pros, but I'm always interested in learning new stuff.
The way I see them, the lever is pinned directly to the sear holding the spring and cover into place a bit above where the spring and spring cover are pinned to the middle of the liner, the sear locks/unlocks the knives open and closed. The spring and backsprings dovetail I think and one bolster pin holds em.
I'd love to see more pics of the insides of some.
I'm more directed tword the old vintage German 12cm shellpuller variants.
By the way you have some beautiful looking knives, excellent work.
Jeff

Not the same knife as the above pictured.

Thanks Jeff
That is a really neat design. May have to try one of those some day. Is there any reason for the center metal strip on the outside of the knife to go all the way to the back? Looks like it simply acts as a spring with the center of it pinned.
Glad you like my knives.
Thanks]
Steve

Yes Steve, the design is very simple and old, yet takes finess and acurate measurements like anything else.
The lever on German model leverlocks usually runs the length of the liners down the center bolster to bolster, with the plated cover on top of it to properly distribute the spring lift on the lever action to assist the sear to lift striaght up and down and less bow on the spring.
The Italian models commonly use a leverspring 1/2 the way down the center and it terminates somewhere in the middle as opposed to being tucked under the bolster.
Some German models do it. Heres a 7 3/4" German Hubertus with about 3/4 exposed on the spring cover clipped right past the scale, and a Modern Italy made 9" Bill DeShivs Leverletto with 1/2 the cover exposed that quits right after the pin to the liner.
I think the full strip is to equal the thick strong springs and backsprings on the the German leverlock knives, (thick for their size anyway).
Thanks for the replies

Hi Rusy,
I've been thinking of getting a kit. Do you need any special tools or will the usual tools that most people have be enough? By the way gook looking knife.

Stay away from the mini leverlock kits I would recommend a Mikov or Leverletto kit. You don't need much, Hammer for peening, Sand paper, Having a bandsaw and a belt sander will really get you moving. Some patience and a general desire to make something cool. Lots of info over on Talkblade on kit building.

Hey Kaleb!
Same here, this is more your type of forum I think because everyone here makes knives.
I just read stuff from here every once in a while and don't participate much.

Wow Jeff, great collection. I'm quite fond of leverlocks myself and the black leverletto you posted is currently on my wishlist. One of the very first knives I ever owned was a German made (forgot the brand) leverlock. Unfortunately somebody stole it. For some reason I also like the Mikov but I'm really not sure about the quality so maybe you can help me with some info?
