My new one

ATS-34, 2.5" balde. Stainless liners, Micarta handle. About 1.5 ounces. I'm happy with it! Thanks for looking.

Very, very nice, Don.

I think I'll make one of those bolsterless slipjoints myself. Great pocket knife.

So, Don, since you've perked up my interest by showing us what it looks like, please describe the pivot you used. Looks real nice.

Thanks everyone!

Don, it's just a plain 1/8" pin pivot, no bushing. I made two round collars from some brass .094" thick to support the pin and set them into the Micarta with epoxy.

Actually I bought a bunch of pivot bushings like you suggested a while ago. But while roughing out my parts, I had a senior moment and drilled my liners and my collars with a 1/8" drill bit (actually drilled and reamed) and then went doh...the bushings are for a 3/32" pin! I hadn't drilled the blade yet so rather than remake those parts I just used an eighth-inch pin. Seems to work fine.

Don

So you peened the 1/8 pin over a brass washer?

Yes that's it basically. I cut the collars or washers from 3/32" flat stock and ground them roughly round, then turned them on the lathe to size (can't remember exactly right now).

They have a 1/8" hole in the center which I tapered slightly with a reamer, then peened the pin in place while assembling. When finished off the pin cannot be seen, just like with a bolster.

I got the idea from watching a video about Tony Bose somewhere on the web. He uses this setup because he says just the pin alone is weak. I do it like this for look. I feel the pin by itself peened into the Micarta would be plenty strong on a small knife like this. Now, a big trapper or folding hunter might be a different story.

Don that looks really good, I like the way that you did the pivot as well.

Hi Don! Nice job on the slip joint. I really like the look of a wharncliffe blade in simple clean pocket knife.
