Question JB Weld and heat question?

How hot can JB get before it starts to break down? Is it safe to get it around 300 degrees? I got ahead of myself this weekend while fitting a guard to a tang?

Thanks

LOL

If it breaks down in the temper, just remove the guard, clean up the parts and re-glue after temper.

It is supposed to be resistant to 500 degress, this is after full curing which is 15-24 hours. So 300 degrees shouldn't be an issue.

I don't think I have ever gotten it to 300 degrees before but I have gotten it pretty darn hot and not had any issues.

Well....

It tends to change color around 400* and at 500* you still catch the devil trying to get it to let go. :evil

Or so I have heard ...nothing every goes wrong in my shop. ...we need a smiley with tall rubber boots.

If you have never tried taking a guard off that has been J.B.'ed in place go for....just have some more guard material handy.

Good luck and hope this helped some.

Well lets see.....!!!
Depends on which type of JB weld you used.
I know of two types. Look at the two tubes. If one is RED (Hardener) and the other BLACK (Steel), then its suppose to be good up to 600 degrees farenheit. I think the other type is a tube that is tan in color. that one is either 350-425, not sure about that one, but I'm sure about the Black & Red.

The other JB Weld has a rating of 300 degrees. Its also guick set. Tan and blue if I remember. Still like the regular JB but the other is fine if your in a rush but has to be used quick or it will set up on you before you know it.
