Stag Bowie

I saw this Bowie at the Chicago show... I made it a Year or so ago... For those makers who are curious about the Rope on the Spine of the the Blade.. It's slotted down over the !/4 inch thick Blade . Dove tailed in by the front Clip and goes into the front Collor just in front of the Hilt... This anchors the Rope to the blade very solidly... it's all 440-C and Left hand Sandbar Stag with Gold Lip Pearl

Very nice Lloyd. On the fitting next to the guard on the handle side there is very small parallel cuts. Maybe file cuts??? Please tell us how you cut these lines.

Joe

Those are made with a Checkering file.. depending on what kind of effect you are trying to achieve determines the number of teeth per inch file you use.... I go from a size 00 to a 1 ....440-C is hell on files , So it's good to have a good supply.... I try and keep my files for nickel silver seperate from the ones I use on 440-C..... I do all my bending with a small Mimi torch and needle nose pliers... then stress relieve everything before final polish and assembly.... I like to intertwine things, it's a challange to make it all balance out....
I stress relieve by putting all the parts into a small toaster oven at about 300 to 350 degrees F. for a few hours.....then cool down real slow..... Don't know if that's really nessasary or not for just parts but it's an old habit I got into years ago....

Anyone check out the price on checkering files at Brownells lately? They've gone up to $40 and $50 each. YIKES!

Anyone have a cheaper source?
