Inlay on Rifle Sight
Hello all,
Sorry to have been scarce lately. Lots to do, etc, etc. here are two pictures of an 1886 rear sight that I was asked to do some inlay on. I used a small round graver to cut the channel, and a knife graver to undercut. i pushed in the gold(.010) with a brass punch in the air graver. I did a folding leaf sight more recently in platinum, using .006 wire. That was a bit easier to get in. no pics of that one though. Hope you all are well! take care, Tom |

Very clean work Tom.
Little touches like this or ivory beads, gold/platinum triangles, etc., just make a fine gun better. Thanks for showing! Tim __________________ http://www.adlamengraving.com |

Kent,
I think so. It certainly wasn't hard. Robotic? If a scope at 40x, an airgraver, and Corel Draw + Me = cyberengravernetic organism, Then I guess I am! Actually, when it comes to block lettering, I take "robotic" as a compliment. Take care, Tom |

Nice clean inlays Tom
It not only makes it look good but it's functional as well, the gold lights up those lines and numbers. Mike |

Hey I like that - CYBERENGRAVERNETIC TOM! Its a long "handle" but it works! haha
As always - you do great work. It's usually harder to do simple neat and clean, as any deviation immediately shows up. A solid mass of scrolls hides a multitude of sins. What would a cost for something like this be (no answer is necessary) just curious. |
