Info on miniature knife

I just picked up a miniature knife today, a slipjoint about 1 inch in length, .75 inch blade of carbon steel, nickel silver bolsters and bail, tortoise shell slabs, and at one time had a silver plate on one side. The best I can read on the tiny blade is "A.W. Wadsworth & Sons." Can anyone provide me with some info about the age of this knife or the company? Thanks! I'd post a pic, but I don't know if my camera is up to something this small. . .

Armory414-- Unfortunately I don't have any info on the knife you described. However, I have a very similar Wade & Butcher Eisenhower with 1" and 2" blades, Buffalo handle and nickel bolsters that I've been trying to evaluate. Good luck and perhaps we'll chat.

Gray9,

After googling the company all I found out was that the company (AW Wadsworth and Sons) made knives in Germany and Czechovslovakia. I could find no information about miniature knives, but it is likely these were made as a promotional item. Mine is actually a functional knife. It's very sharp, and has a strong backspring.

Indeed, these 'promotional knives' were not uncommon and now quite collectible. My W&B is also very sharp and functional, a real gentleman's 'tuxedo' knife. Trying to get info on these little gems is difficult and I came up against some pretty obnoxious reactions from the 'Blade Forum' I.D. man-- a real jerk-off. Thanks for your quick reply.

I haven't been on a forum yet that didn't have someone that took themselves a little too seriously.

I'm heading out of town for a week, but I'll try to get a pic and post it before I go. My knife is about the size of a quarter.

A414-- Many thanks for your commiseration, really appreciate it. Size of a quarter? That *is* small. Do you know if small knives are still considered harder to make and therefore more collectible?, and if that includes unusually small or just relatively small (1 or 2 inch blades)? Have a good trip.

Gray9,

Haven't taken a photo of my knife yet, but I did find one on Ebay--same as mine, except mine is missing the escutcheon/shield.

A414- Great little Scout, tempted to bid on it. I assume this must be a regular folder but by the "snap" description, it sounds like an old auto. For instance, I have an ancient Colonial 'Shur-Snap' that has the same sort of red celluloid. Considering the casual attitude there use to be with autos, it wouldn't surprise me if Scouts could easily get them.
