HELP!!! Knife needs restoration

Okay, I just got back from an auction and picked up a custom knife made by Weiler. Both blade and sheath are stamped with his name, but it is not marked "Weiler Yuma" Is there another Weiler?

Anyway, the knife is unused. BUT! (There is always a but, isn't there?). The owner of the knife has been in the VA hospital for the last 5 years. The house fell into ruins. No heat for 5 years, and the roof leaks. The knife sat in the sheath. Sheath and leather stacked handles are in great condition, just a little mold on the surface. The blade's edge has some surface rust.

What can I do to restore the knife? If this really is one of Don Weiler's knives, would I be better off to send it to him to polish up? I paid $85 for this knife and 3 others (commercial) in a batch.

I don't have time to post pics now, but will try to add some later this weekend.

Thanks!!

Nathan
