Answer: All of the Above

I love a big single blade, retro, "folding bowies" for an EDC. In the summer months, wearing loose nylon shorts while carring can lead to em-bare-assing situations in the grocery store. Soooooo, I carry this lightweight aluminum daddy barlow style. Super light, but a big blade. Problem solved.

I have said before, I came to collect this pattern because they just seem to gravitate to me. Just the other day. The boyfriend, Mike , of a girl that works for me, Tina, handed me this one saying, "Here, I found this in the garbage", "I knew you liked knives, so I grabbed it for you".

I was happy to get it, as I did not have a Kabar/Buck clone. The fact that it is well used is a plus to me. It is better off with me than in the land fill where it was headed.

KNIFE DRAWER TALK:

" Hey Kabar, Where did you come from?"

Where did I come from?" "MAN, you would not belive it but , I was in the TRASH! "Yeah man, there was, I could hear the truck comming, I was thinking, AWW MAN, this is the end of me. "All the hard work I did over the years and here I go ending up being buried for a thousand years between a lego block and a Barby doll head."

"Wow, what did you do?"

I knew it was my last chance, so I tried to wiggle to the top and put on my best shine thu my patena, and BAM.

"BAM, what do you mean BAM?"

"I mean BAM, I was snatched up by a kid with tattoos all over him and a foot high green Mohawk. I rode around in his pocket for a couple days, then got passed off to another guy coverd in tattoos, had a mug shot taken and ended up here". "What a nightmare!"

"Relax man, you are safe now"

"Whew!, thanks.
....... By the way, what is up with that cute little garter knife in the next drawer down?"

"BACK OFF BUDDY, I seen her first"

According to my research. O.J. "allegedly" bought one of these, days or weeks before the incident. True or not, this knife has been knicknamed "The O.J."

We aren't the only ones interested in the 'folding bowie or ?' question. Check out the cover page of the most recent newsletter of the Antique Bowie Knife Association. Very cool! Click to enlarge.

It is not I who am crazy, it is I who am mad!

Finally got my hands on a copy of Bernard Levines Guide to Knives and their Values 4th Ed. In the section on folding bowies I found this pic. In the text you can see that folding hunter and folding bowie terms are used interchangably. When I compare the two pics I see a similarity so close as to make these two patterns the same. So, in conclusion it would seem both terms are correct. It all depends on whether you are at deer camp or broke down in a seedy part of town as to what to call your Buck.

"The people have spoken Bill. Even the thought of violence benumbs them."

Extra points if you name the movie.
