Home brew electrolyte for etching?
Does anyone have formulas for electro-etching electrolytes that they'd like to share? I'm close to finishing a home made etcher and would like to try etching 1095. Also, any advice or tips? Thanks! Mike |

Are you asking about stencil etchings? ....or wax etchings? |

Re: stencils
Well, as far as homemade solutions; I've heard that a pinch of table salt in a cup of water will act as an electrolite. I have tried it just enough to see if it works...and it does. All I used at the time was a battery charger clipped to a que tip. Then I ordered a machine from Ron Claiborne, that works much better. Now I just order the etchant from Sheffield's Knifemaker Supply. A bottle is like $12. and will last virtually forever. Steve www.stevescutlery.com |

Re: stencils
KOSHER SALT, IODINE FREE, THE CANNING KIND. MIX 7 TO 8 TABLESPOONS TO 1 QT. BOILED WATER. YOU MAY HAVE TO VARY THE SALT ACCORDING TO AMOUNT OF VOLTAGE USED. HOPE THIS HELPS. LET US KNOW HOW IT WORKS OUT. KEN (WWJD) |
