Hi SkaerE,
You'll need an autotransformer, also known as a variable transformer. Ebay is one place to get one, but I've also run across a surplus equipment website on the 'net that carried new ones for ~$40...can't remember the site now. I know someone who *may* be releasing an affordable anodizing system for the knifemaker based on a different design that will have a smaller footprint and come complete as a single package. This guy also makes a top notch etching machine and has recently gotten into the hydraulic press building business. If his faithful apprentice/assistant ever gets off of his butt and works on the design some more, he might be able to see if this is going to work out. Actually his assistant is one of the hardest working fellows I know, just has a lot of sticks in the fire presently and the anodizer circuit is on the "to do" list! -Darren __________________ Gas Forges, Refractory, & Knifemaking Supplies Refractory.EllisCustomKnifeworks.com Visit the Forge Gallery - forge building resource pages ForgeGallery.EllisCustomKnifeworks.com |

is it Ron Clairborne? i was just about to mail my check to him for my etching machine
he did mention that he would be busy for a couple weeks building presses. the anodizer looks easy enough to build. i just need to know where to get the parts. |

Yep, the one and only: Ron Claiborne! I'll get back to working on the circuit after the Batson Symposium. If it works, his will be different than the variable transformer models. Smaller footprint on the workbench and will come in a nice complete package. The one you're thinking of building works well too, but this will just be another option for those who don't want to build one and want a small professional looking little box that does well too.
I'd just keep an eye on ebay for a while for the transformer you need, one will eventually show up if there aren't any there now. Good luck! BTW, I see you're from Virginia? Where in Virginia? That's where I grew up and lived until about 6 years ago when i moved to Tennessee... -Darren __________________ Gas Forges, Refractory, & Knifemaking Supplies Refractory.EllisCustomKnifeworks.com Visit the Forge Gallery - forge building resource pages ForgeGallery.EllisCustomKnifeworks.com |

Hi Erik,
I hear you about the crazy weather, same here in Knoxville but without the snow... I grew up in Virginia Beach, went into the military at age 17 to get away from home...and what did they do! They stationed me right back at home! arghh! Anyway, after the military, I lived and worked in the Shenandoah Valley up in Harrisonburg before going back to college at JMU to do my undergrad work. Finished there and moved to Tennessee to do graduate studies. I hear you, definitely like the country more than the city. My wife is from Alexandria, just outside of Old Town, and while I love to go and spend time with her family (really great people), every time we're there it just reaffirms that I never want to live in a big city again if I can avoid it. -Darren __________________ Gas Forges, Refractory, & Knifemaking Supplies Refractory.EllisCustomKnifeworks.com Visit the Forge Gallery - forge building resource pages ForgeGallery.EllisCustomKnifeworks.com |
