polish blesbok

I'm brand new to using any type of horn for a handle. How do I polish up a blesbok horn? Sanding seems to thin the material too much, making it see through.

Also is it possible to reshape the bend of the horn by heating in water and placing in a vice, or is there a better way?

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you. I'm just sitting here chuckling at myself, because when I first read the title before reading your post I couldn't help thinking, "They don't have blesbok in Poland!!!!" I think it's going to be one of THOSE days.
