knife storage

i know its not recommended to keep knives in their sheaths, but some knives such as crk shadow III in a-2 steel which all but the edge is coated as long as it was kept wiped and oiled, would it be a problem? thanks in advance!

I'll probably get flamed but, I have a number of carbon steel knives that I've kept stored in their sheaths for years and never had a problem with any of them. As long as they are not put away wet and the leather isn't chrome tanned, I think it's as a problem. Of course, I don't mind it if my blades take on a patina.

I keep my users in their sheath. Some have taken on patinas or slight beginnings of rust...thankfully the mild So. Cal weather allows me this latitude and cleaning isn't too difficult.
