5160 Utility Bottle opener

First pics on this site.
Ex- leaf spring reborn as a handy size bottle opener/6 inch blade.
Kept the handle simple. Jute was propane torched just to be different.
Chops good. Good w/ kitchen chores.

Cool knife Blaine. How did you get the blade so black? And then how did you get the nice even sharp contrast between the silver sharpened part and the black part? Awesome and "tribal" looking too! Todd

Outstanding Blaine. Is that the one you brought over a few weeks ago? It looks great finished.

Toddhill,

Nothing fancy. The finish is done by leaving the scale on. Quench in vegitable oil. Spread on a thin coat of veg oil on before tempering. Temper at 400 F. Spread on another coat of oil temper again. Now the whole blade is dark brownish black (think.... seasoning a cast iron skillet). Polish out the edge w/a Dremmel....bingo, Semi-Quasi Neo-Tribal.

Tim,

No the other one with the smaller handle was 1095. Still dont know where to go with that one. This was the last of the leaf spring you gave me.....Thanks.

Tai,

Thanks.....you started it!

Thanks Blaine, I'll have to try that veggie oil temper. Like putting sun tan oil on. Cool. Todd
