Regional Clubs!!
Texas is a very big state and I find it hard to make hammerins. I need to stay close to home as possible, due to my wife's health. What do you guys think of regional clubs for get togethers and hammerins?? No big deal, just thought I would check the temp and get some opinions.

I'm all for that, Ken. I'd like to see a club for South Texas knifemakers. Everything seems to be way up north almost in Yankeeland. I'd sure like to have something in South Texas.

It's not so much that Texas is a big state, but that the others are so small!
What we need are more get-togethers and just spread them around a bit. Brownsville and El Paso are going to be a stretch for most of the rest of us and there's not much gettin' around that. I have so much fun hanging around this forum that I can't help but think a hammer-in with some of these folks would be a blast. Looks like we have a good one scheduled for October in Bryan-College Station. That's reasonably close to Waco, isn't it? Don, I would advise you to be careful about were you draw the line for that 'Yankeeland' reference. This part of the county is pretty civilized, but there's a rumor that the post office folks don't wear blue uniforms around Cut 'N Shoot for fear of being mistaken for Yankee soldiers. Robert has the neatest looking shop I've ever seen (from his posted pics anyway). Plus, he's got lots of seating. So Uvalde has some promise. If we hold it during deer season, maybe I could do both and leverage that for a kitchen pass from the wife. I, too, have a wife with chronic health problems, so all kidding aside, you have my sympathy. Responsibilities take first priority. I hope your suggestion stirs up enough interest to get a meet for you to attend. __________________ God bless Texas! Now let's secede!! |

I'd really like to see more of these spring up as well. That was kinda what prompted me to host one. There's three TKCA members here in town, and another few makers as well. We're a little over an hour south of Waco and a little over an hour north of Houston and about the same for Austin and East Texas so certainly close enough for persons not here in town to come in. I think a rotating "shop night" would be neat as well. Not really a full blown hammer-in, but a gathering (one day/evening) at a maker's shop. It's always neat to see other's set up!
