Smile beginner knife making class at Montgomery CC

I just returned a few hours ago from my first knife making class. It was held at Montgomery Community College in beautiful Troy,NC and it was a blast!!!

I'd like to send out a big THANK YOU to the instructor, Travis Daniel and his assistants, Phillip and Barry Jones.

I also want to thank the NC Custom Knifenakers Guild for providing a resource for people who want to get in to knife making.

Thanks again for teaching me how to make my first, but hopefully not my last, knife.

Cheers go out to Adam, Chris, Chris, Ed, Frank, Jonathan and Mike on their knives too. All of us had a great time!

I'll try to attach some photos in the next few days

Great to see you here, Mark. I enjoyed spending the weekend with you and helping you learn a little about knifemaking.

The class was excellent. Travis did a wonderful job. Phillip and I are already looking forward to having Travis come back and teach it again next year.

I'm worn out but I had a blast helping you guys.

All of the students did an excellent job, especially those that had never attempted to make a knife before. I think all of the students final pieces were the best of any class I've been involved with so far.

I should have also mentioned Tim and Art helping out. Got too much info flowing thru my brain

We had 5 instructors for 8 students at one point. Where else are you going to get that kind of knifemaking class? That is how we roll in the NCCKG and at Montgomery Community College

Travis, dear friend, you, Phillip and Barry Jones have accomplished what I would consider a miracle. Those first knives are commendable and the new makers should be proud of the blades they have fashioned. --Sandy--

Just so everyone knows just how talented these guys were, they (1) tapered a tang.(2) dovetailed the bolsters.(3) soldered a 416 guard, and( 4 )put a liner in. How's that for beginning in just three and one half days? Sandy it is good to hear you and dont be a stranger. Trav
