Switchblade Spring Question

Hi everybody,

I have a question regarding the replacement of the spring in a Smith and Wesson Extreme Ops. My problem is that I measured the spring and it happens to be .50 inch diameter. I bought a MAXX torque spring in that size and when I put it in the knife and close it the spring deforms and no longer works. I have no idea what could be wrong. I tried springs of different diameter to no avail.

Could the spring be too powerful for the knife and thus when the knife is closed it cannot take the force and deforms? Could the spring be too tall? Would it work if I cut off a "ring" of the spring? Am I putting the knife together wrong and messing up the spring as a result? What if I try a regular torque spring that is not as powerful? Is the spring used in a S&W knife a special design?

As you can see I have a lot of questions, but I imagine there is one answer.

I apologize if I sound like a complete amateur. I am new at this stuff.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks everyone,

William

i would suspect the spring is to tall if it is fiiting in the channel and the pins go in the holes.Contact S and W.They probably would have sent you one as a replacement.
