Question Etching Titanium

Prior to anodizing titanium what is used to prepare it? Reactive Metals has a solution they recommend, but it is $28.76 a gallon. Does anyone have anything else they use in place of the high dollar stuff? Thanks.

acetone works well enough. just be sure not to touch the cleaned ti once it is clean. use tongs.
