Attaching trench style grips

Hi all,
My nephew has requested I make him a trench style knuckle knife as a wedding gift (yep...!). He is a massive fan of the EDMF knives for example.
I've never made something with a cast-on handle and I'm trying to think of the best way to pull it all together.
The local foundry can cast nickel-aluminum bronze handles if I carve an mdf match plate pattern, which is easy enough... but they aren't open to casting the handle on the blade in situ.
Which leaves me with a decision to make -
  • Drill the cast handle out and epoxy + pin the blade in place. Pin doesn't quite fit the look.
  • Just epoxy... no idea if this would be strong enough?
  • Use pewter as the handle fill instead of epoxy. It would give more of a cast on look but I've never worked with pewter; any thoughts?
  • Tang thread and nut. 1918 style but not the look he wants so this is my least preferred option.

If anyone has done similar or has a suggestion it would be much appreciated.

R.
