How is French Grey applied and what is used to achieve the look? Is it done before or after blueing?
Thanks, Shawn |

Hi Shawn .. French graying is done after the gun is blued . when you want to french gray engraving you mask off the area and then apply naval jell to the surface and this removes the bluing leaving a gray finish . next you apply a clear coat to protect the gray i hope this will help

Thanks for the link Wayne.
Hi Ron, I saw the pictures Lee posted of the rifle parts he finished with the naval jelly. I like the look he achieved. It really complimented his engraving on that project. I didn't know that was a french gray finish. Thanks for pointing that out. Shawn |

I will add three questions. What is everyone using for a clear coat, what and how is the masking applied and is anyone mixing the naval jelly with another product to achieve varying shades of gray? That may keep us busy for awhile.
