First handmade knife!!!!!!

Hi there guys,

Just finished my first knife !
I'm very curious what ya'll think of it ( I'm rather proud of it )!!

The only electrical equipment I used was a buffer.
The rest was done by hand(Shaping, Filing, Sanding)

Materials used are : -Carbonsteel Blade
-Nickelsilver Spacers
-Black and White Fiber Spacers
-Thick Red Fiber Spacer
-Thuya Burl
-Ebony

All comments are welcome !!
Best Regards and a Nice Holliday Season !!! :evil :evil

First thought from me would be "did you make the blade" ?

Also agree, good job on handle.

I agree that turned out nicely ! Congratulations.

I wanted to explain the issue behind beebee58's question about the blade (sorry, not intending to speak on your behalf...)

In many cultures, knifemakers use blades made by someone else who specialises in making the best blades. In the USA, (and I suppose Australia too), when someone says "hand-made knife" I immediately assume that they made the blade too. In those countries, using a blade made by somebody else usually means the knife should be called a "kit" knife.

This is not a negative reflection on your work at all. However, to avoid any confusion and (potentially) embarassing questions later on, it is always best to announce up-front who made the blade. This of course also applies to announcing who did the heat treatment, who made the sheath etc.

As mentioned, please do not take this as criticism of your hard work. Just as you have used a Lauri blade, many American knifemakers use the services of Paul Bos for the best heat treatment for blades, and Kenny Rowe and Chuck Burrows for knife sheaths.

Hope to see more from you. Cheers. Jason.

Really nice job, that handle is a good combination of the materials you used.My only question , is , the thick spacer material you used ,was in imbedded with a mesh type fiber and if so how did it sand and what was the highest grit you used on it.

Hi there Predator !!

The Thick Red fiber I used U can find at: " www.brisa.fi "
It is easy to work on with a coping saw , files and sandpaper.
I took it down to 500 grit, and then buffed it with allumina oxide.

Best regards,
:evil R.O. :evil

Thanks for that info--will have to try it.I think that is an impressive handle.Your blade choice was a good one--gave a Lauri blade knife to a friend of mine and he field dressed 2 deer and skinned them and cut them up--without sharpening the knife. He said while cutting some meat with it ,he barely touched the blade--and it cut him real good. That blade for the price , is a good one.
