That's a beauty Rob. Are you stabilizing your antler? I have a full tang on the go now that I'd like to use deer antler scales. And how do you finish the antler?

They are tricky indeed I found to work with and am by no means an expert.....I will say I have a stag handled knife over 60 years that's been passed down through the family which may of been the knife that inspired me to create.....it certainly were not stabilized and still looks great, I know some do or have tried to stabilize but I have not , my method that has worked on many now is to only use well aged antler material, I have several boxes of it , I have cut them all ( well most of them ) into matching scales and they continue to age in that form.....when I split them I allow them to continue to age/dry then apply crazy glue to the inner punky area if required to seal them , allow to dry and sand to finish , if 100% dry a little punk is fine , good adhesion I've found to spacer material or tang itself....once the antler is attached and the handle is shaped I re-apply a thin coat of crazy glue to the newly exposed porous material along the top of the handle and maybe the butt area if required.......repeat sand to clean up. From there a couple really thin coat's of Danish oil , wipe on let dry and repeat til happy , it offers a nice sealant as well, make note that the Danish oil must be cleaned off the tang when dry, again not an expert or close , just my way that has worked well for me, hope this helps __________________ R.Watson B.C. Thanks for the heads up Rob. My thought had been to split the antler and use thin CA on the inside. My antlers have been stored for several years now. I'll give it a go and post up when it's finished. Thanks again.
