Epoxy Syringe

So I finally got a syringe to measure my epoxy like Ray has been sayin to do. This whole time I've been doing it by weight. I read somewhere that the weight ratio of hardener to resin was 1:3.8 on account of different densities. Its actually 1:4.4!!!!!!! Dang, been pretty far off this whole time. Glad I got it fixed now. Turns out the syringe is less hassle too, and I cleaned it with alcohol and its like brand new.

I clean them with acetone but whatever works. I'm glad you found the syringe idea useful. I learned about them from Ed Caffrey. Pass it on ....

I went to the local pharmacy to get some.... Needless to say the lady told me I don't need a syringe, I need to go to rehab! Tried to explain what it was for n that I didn't even need the needle. Nope. I did find out that the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem thou! I guess I'll have to try somewhere else!

You can buy them in ranch stores around here. They are stocked with the other veterinary supplies.

Go to the local feed store. They usually have them.

Or you can go the other direction and try a methadone clinic.

Not many ranches in Pennsylvania we have a tractor supply store. I'll try there.

Electrathon, I'd probably end up getting shot at one of the clinics around here! To many drug dealers in those parking lots!

You may not have ranches but you probably have veterinarians. Try a vet supply or a feed store if you can find one. Vets need syringes, tractors hardly ever use them ...

Has anyone tried the small plastic syringes that come with children's medications? They are a lot easier to come by and don't draw as much attention from the authorities.

This conversation has reminded me the show where Hank Hill (King of the Hill) bought meth from the local dealer thinking it was fishing bait. The fish were jumping into the boat to get the hook.

Back to the origional issue though. Is it that important to have the mixture exact? I have always made two blobs of the same size and started stiring? Is this a huge mistake and I need to start being more anal than carefree?

Well Acraglas is 1:4 not 1:1, so equal blobs would be really bad. Supposedly its really important to get it close on acraglas, but I've been way off for a while now and havent had any problems, although now I'm hoping I'll get even better results.

The syringe gets it exact and is hassle free. I got a 5 pack on ebay for a few bucks

could you fill two syringes with acra glass (one with hardener and one with resin) and store it that way?
Thanks,
Doug

You might not have a tractor store but horses are everywhere. There sold at every feed store I have ever seen. They are not sterile, needles are sold separate, they come in a large variety of sizes. Or u can order them. http://www.horse.com/Search.aspx?query=syringe You can maybe find them cheaper

Doug,

Maybe, but why bother? The syringes aren't air tight like the original containers that the glue comes in. And, the syringes are usually purchased in sizes close to the amount of glue you usually mix up. The only way to have enough room to store any extra is to buy much larger than you need and that makes measurement trickier.

They are easy to clean. My method is to pour some acetone in a small bowl. After I measure part of the epoxy I suck up some acetone with the syringe and leave it sit while I finish working on the handle. After I'm done with the handle, I use the syringes to transfer the bowl of acetone back to its container. That usually means filling and emptying each syringe about 3 times and that's all it takes to clean them. The acetone can be re-used for this indefinitely ...

Thanks Ray, I didn't realize they would be so easy to clean. Where is the best place to purchase Acra Glass?
