Customer designed skinner.
Had a guy ask me if I would make a skinning knife he had designed. I told him I would.
Here was his design and the rough ground blank. The design had over all length listed and called for Damascus and some file work around the top. I made 2 recommendations. A much deeper grind (I hollow ground it to improve the angle.) And handles to make it more comfortable to hold. Heye it is. It is well, interesting and I'm not sure if it will offer any advantages over a traditional skinner. But he got the knife he designed as close as I could manage. |

Interesting , I think I prefer his grind line in this case....

I guess it's possible it looked better with his grind line. But it would have been poor edge geometry for a skinner.

design looks just "interesting" and awkward enough to use that itll probably be a hit.
you did a quality job of making it, but I too fail to see the advantages it brings to the task. holding it would be...... uncomfortable for me personally |

Sort of a cross between an ulu and a regular knife. I know that it was his design but I think that I would have gone with more of a traditional ulu design with s single bevel.

It's definitely a design I've never seen before... I suppose I could see how it could be used. Although, I don't see any other use to it besides a skinner. At the end of the day I'll go with Nate's second remark... If the customer is happy with the product, well then I guess nothing else matters. In that sense, that's what is neat about what we do, we are able to give a customer something that no store can.
