YAY!! I can post
Hey folks, Tony here. I'm a total noob to knife making so I apologize in advance for asking what are the typical noobish and probably asinine questions.
Thanks in advance for your patience in that regard. Also thanks to admins and Ed Caffrey for being so quick to answer questions and get me up and running here on t2he boards. I got started watching Ron Hood's video on Taigoo and Tim Lively. Also a buddy of mine lent me Tim's knifemaking unplugged which is awesome. I'm an applied economist by day, meaning I watch what markets do so this isn't my job... but its developing into a real passion. I got into this because I wanted to make the blades I use in my eskrima practice.. barongs, Musso type bowies.. but I'm also into making live versions of italian classical foils/epees/Radaellian type Sabers.. so thats my inspiration. i'm starting with a small fixed blade because Im new Wish me luck and help me lots!!! Welcome!
You're doing the right thing by starting with small blades. Learn the grinding, pounding, shaping, finishing, heat treating processes first on small blades and things will go much faster and much more successfully. Then move on to the long blades when you feel you're ready. Most people find that a blade twice as long as what you usually make is four times harder to make ....... |
