Will YOU ever buy a custom???

Just asking.............

For those of you who do not own one, what are your thoughts on getting one?

Just a little push here maybe to help make up your mind.......

This knife is sold.

Here is the last one done, thought you would like to see it.

Folder - #572
Amber Sambar Stag
ATS34 - Steel
Closed - 3 5/8''

I put a 400 belt finish on this blade.
The stag is a bit more red in person. -
All comments are welcomed.
Thanks for looking, take care.

Todd Davison

In answer to your question, Todd - yes, if I could afford it.

The corollary to that is that your work has inspired me so much that I've actually started working on my first from-scratch folder. Your linerless slipjoints in particular are just amazing. Until now I've focused solely on fixed blades.

I wish I could afford a custom knife yours or someone else, Maybe this is why I got started making knives. Todd your slip joints especially your wharncliff has inspired me to try to attempt a slip joint in the near future. I really enjoy seeing your work

Custom, no.
Hand-made, yes...

I love your work, and this one is no exception.

Another one?

I had made this knife a linerless folder with some green G10. Well it had some small like stress cracks around the shield when done.
So I remade it today into this...........

Folder - #573

Amber Stag
ATS34 - Steel - 1/16''
Closed - 3 3/8''
Hollow Ground
Hand Finished

Walks & Talks very nice.

The knife is sold.

Thanks for the looks.
Have a great weekend.

Todd Davison

Are you talking a "handmade" custom ? I think everyone here likes knives. The reason I started making knives is because I cant afford to buy handmade customs. I have bought some handmade customs. I also enjoy collecting them too.
I noticed a comment that said " No " , very interesting Don. I own one of your knives too.

Hi, Dwane. Long time no see.

I figured that little word, "No", might elicit a comment or two.

I said that because it's the truth for me. I use and carry my own knives, so I don't need someone else's knife. Not to mention that I can't afford them either.

Now I'll admit that I do have a really beautiful little folder given to me for Christmas years ago by a fellow knifemaker. But I didn't buy it. It's a real keepsake.

Don't forget that knife you have that I made has a part of me in it. So don't get mad at me.

I can not afford one seems to be a common response! Most can afford one if they want one bad enough. I can understand a tight budget and hard times. But the I can not afford one because I spent a few thousand bucks on supplies and equipment to make my own just does not sound like a good excuse. I have been in both situations and I ended up with a few custom knives, mostly fixed blades. I make a few knives and the ones I now carry for hunting are made by me because I wanted to know how they performed in the field. I still get sticker shock when I look at the price of a knife from a top name maker though!

Yes

I am on a very limited budget also but I still own 3 custom knives they are some of my most prized possessions. I revel in their fit, finish and overall beauty each time I handle them.
