High Temperature Tools and Refractory can fill all you needs for mortars, refractory, ITC products, and parts.

I was building mine w/ the 2nd can too. Then I received an old tank recently that has the length and about the same dia. as the 2 cans but it will be sturdier.

I want to make kitchen knives so length is my concern.

If 8 inch dia. pipe gets even 2 inch of lining that leaves 4 inch ID.

How far away from the walls should the steel be??

I usually have my blades spine down and move it back and forth in the forge to avoid hot spots. Try not to have the flame hitting directly on the blade.
