Pic's--H.D. primary chain sandwich-damascus

These billets are made from an 18" section of H.D. primary chain sandwiched between two strips of 88 layer damascus.

One was pressed in the sandwich config, the other was given a slight twist then pressed.

They measure 7" in length.

Fred

Very cool Fred! It has quite a bit more contrast than I would expect - any idea on the type of steels used? I think one of the two should be an HD themed knife - maybe some sort of black burl with orange liners or spacers???

Dave,

I'm excited! I can't make up my mind which to grind first.

Indian George Rebello, who sent me the chain, Thought L-6, which I am inclined to believe. It had a higher carbon content than the damascus, which is 1095/5160/15n20. It was stiff under the 25 ton press, to say the least. The surface smoothed out with very little dimpling.
I think the theme knife is an excellent Idea.

I'll post some pics when I get them profiled and have the bevels ground.

Fred

Very neat looking blades.
What's the H.D. actually stand for? Just Heavy duty or something else?
