Orange G 10 handle and spacer opinions
I'm putting together a hunting / camping / "do it all" dynamic duo and decided to go with a
10-3 in orange G10 and another skinning/outdoors RMK in orange G10. Black special order sheath by Sullivan's will help me tote the duo in the woods. The problem comes in when I get to the spacer combination and second "bigger" knife. What looks good with Orange? I was thinking black and silver spacers or all black spacers. The other combinations don't sound all that appealling to me. The knives I was really leaning towards were the #20 and #11, but know I'm looking at all of 'em so long as it stays under 5 inches. So what spacer configurations have you seen on Orange Randalls that did OR didn't look all that good? What about your thoughts on the second "bigger" knife? Any pics? Thanks for the help, Rob |

Heres a picture of Cap Special May give you some Ideas I don't think spacers would be appropriate with G-10 http://www.knifeauctions.net/listing...mnum=810234206 Thanks Dick __________________ Dick Roberts RKS 535 |

Decisions, decisions...
Hi Rob!
As far as the black and silver spacers to go, I think you're right on. They will look great with the bright orange for sure. All black would be good too, but maybe a bit too Halloweenish for some tastes. With regard to your "larger" hunting knife, I would recommend the 4 5/8" Stanaback "Special". From all accounts (including the Captain's very objective assessment), this knife is extremely practical for a myriad of tasks. The sharpened top bevel is a big plus. Deciding upon your RMK model and options...never an easy task! Cheers! David __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

Look in the Model of the week for model 3's. I posted a pic of my model 3 with NS hilt and black and aluminium spacers.

Rob,
Concerning the larger knife, have you looked through the earleir posts in the site yet and seen our trials and tribulations concerning building the ideal "camp" knife? http://www.knifenetwork.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=29468 -gary __________________ "If some, among you, fear taking a stand because you are afraid of reprisals...recognize that you are just feeding the crocodile hoping he'll eat you last." - Ronald Reagan |

Thanks for the reply boys! Much appreciated!
I was told that I had to have spacers with G10, does this vary by knife? MH, I hadn't thought about the Halloween look, that might just disqualify it. As far as the older posts go, I've got a ton of reading to do, will take me a little while to catch up since I've missed so much, but it is great to see so much action with RMKs again. Rob |

Rob,
I have made up more orange G-10 hunters and campers than anyone. Standard red, white, and blue don't get it for me with this color handle. Yes: You "do" have to have spacers with all handles, "BUT" my recommendation is a nickel silver single hilt and a smooth nickel silver "collar"!! Only one black spacer and then the big collar: Looks great!! A Model #11-4 1/2", with these options would be an awesome Randall. Add right hand finger grips, a "rounded" duraluminum butt cap, wrist thong, model "A" black sheath, with no hone pocket and a diagonal keeper strap, and.....of course, that's just "me". I could be wrong. Best, Captain Chris Stanaback __________________ Captain Chris Stanaback |

Welcome Scottybuck!
Hi Scottybuck and welcome to the Knife Network!
Please follow the instructions for posting photos, which are "sticky" threads at the top of each of the three Randall forums. INSTRUCTIONS for Posting a SINGLE IMAGE with your post! INSTRUCTIONS for Posting MULTIPLE IMAGES within your text! It's pretty staight forward if you follow each step carefully, and before you know it you'll be doing it in your sleep. Good luck! Cheers! Well, it's there.....but it's small. I'll have to work on this. Thanks Moosehead for pointing out the obvious Sticky at the top of the page

You're welcome, Scott and well done.
That's a very neat looking knife. Is it a #10 or another model? Cheers! Moosehead __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

Moose,
Looks like a "Pathfinder" to me, perhaps with a collar? Too long and pointed for a model #10-3". Best, Captain Chris Stanaback __________________ Captain Chris Stanaback |

I told you the picture was too small It is a Pathfinder. I sent an e-mail to Rob so he could get a look at the spacer configuration, and was hoping to post the pic here so everyone could see it......Good intentions.

Still a small picture, but maybe you can see the spacers better.....

Scott,
The picures are fine...both of them. The finger on the hilt just made it difficult to tell the spacer configuration. I have 3 Randalls made up for myself in orange G-10. It is, on the right model, a great choice!! Models like a model #10, #16, or a "Fireman" make sense in this very rugged material. Everyone should keep in mind that this material is "customer-supplied" and covers no warranty from the Randall shop. Black Rob: You ever decide upon your options? Let's hear from ya'. Best, Captain Chris Stanaback P.S. A small hunting or camp knife is a lot easier to spot, if dropped, in bright orange!!! CCS __________________ Captain Chris Stanaback |
