Well said. Generally with me, it's one of the following:

- Seperating anything into two or more pieces
- Applying certain delicious spreads to bagels
- Cleaning my teeth
- Cleaning my fingernails
- Pulling nails (skeleton handles only)
- Fishing pens out between my desk and the wall.
- Pushing that hard to reach door closed while I'm sitting on the toilet.
- Tricks!

-Opening Beer Bottles
-Getting Arrested in Certain States...

And I thought the purpose of buying a knife is to justify spending hours online hobnobbing with other weapon freaks.

To answer the original question, a balisong is just like any other knife except that it has a stronger lock, is more fun to flick open, and is illegal to carry in most states (in public; you can of course still parade around your house with a latchless in a G2 reverse draw scaring the bejeezus out of the apples.)

It's also the fastest CLOSING knife on the market. (fastest opening is still under debate)

Agreed, Blasto.

I can't open any bali nearly as quickly as an auto, but I can sure as hell close any bali faster than any type of knife. (Even a fixed blade! )

With the proper holster and lots of practice, you can practically match/beat the draw/deploy of just about any other knife out there. Unlike what you see in the movies, you can open a bali in about the amount of time it takes your hand to move into whatever position you want it in. And I don't see much of a reason to have it any faster. (Need proof? Watch the big vid at my sight ).
