Forged compact hunter with blackwood

Here's one I just finished. I really like this one. I think this is the first forged full tang that I have made. I like the compact size but it's still a full sized rugged knife.

Specs:
Hand forged from 1075 steel, clay quenched and etched
7 1/2" overall, 3 1/2" blade, .195" at the ricasso and tapers sharply both ways
Distal taper
Heavily rounded spine for comfort
Filed and polished thumb grip
Tapered Tang, tapers down to .060"
Contoured African Blackwood scales
1/4" stainless bolts
Mosaic pin, made by me

All comments and discussion welcome

Again some amazing work.

How much shaping do you do to the handle prior to attaching? Do you have to re touch any of the etching after attaching the handle?

Sweet. That's nice piece of blackwood. Just a hint of grain to it.

Doug

I just put the scales on temporarily with the bolts and sand them down to the tang. Then I glue them up and finish them after.

When the knife is all done, I put some Ferric Chloride on a small cotton cloth and rub the tang down to etch it to match the rest of the knife. It takes a while. I keep rubbing it for 10-15 minutes. Then I neutralize it with windex and blend it with flitz polish.
