New Navy uniform
Well the Marines started it. Than the Army and the Air Force.
Now the Navy has issued its own digital camo for us. Nick named the ?blueberries? I just got most of the pieces yesterday. Well they really bring out the blue in my eyes. This is the first of the new working uniforms for the Navy. We?re also suppose to follow with MARPAT BDUs and Deserts. I will say these are an improvement over our utilites that replaced the dungerees. Here is what the full uniform looks like: And here is the special pocket design on all of them: Jim __________________ I cook with a flair for the dramatic, and depraved indifference to calories |

That's interesting. I'm not sure why a camo pattern was even needed for those colors, but it looks allright.
BTW Jim, PM sent. __________________ Andy Garrett https://www.facebook.com/GarrettKnives?ref=hl Charter Member - Kansas Custom Knifemaker's Association www.kansasknives.org "Drawing your knife from its sheath and using it in the presence of others should be an event complete with oos, ahhs, and questions." |

These colors are the same ones of the paint on ships. Our security forces are wearing solid colors (from what I've seen) as it blends in better with a painted ship.
The pattern was (so they say) never suppose to be a camo pattern but something that would not show paint drips like the previous solid color coveralls we use to wear on ship. Also they are allowed off base were the utilities and coveralls weren't. Jim __________________ I cook with a flair for the dramatic, and depraved indifference to calories |

You made me curious so I did a web search...
It seems they were considering blue woodland pattern and fairly standard BDU cuts as well. They also fit tested Army style round caps. I guess this is what they settled on ehh? I also saw that they were changing the service uniform. They were fit testing a Marine corps style khaki shirt with navy blue pants and two colors of belt. That was up against a grey shirt of the same cut. On this outfit, they were also considering loosing the rank/rating patch on the arm in favor of collar pins for the same function. Which of these did they decide on? I also see that they are going retro with a khaki 'dress' uniform for officers similar if not identical to what was worn in WWII. They even wear the rank boards on the shoulder of the jacket rather than the stripes on the bottom of the sleeve--pretty cool really. Must be an exiting time to be a sailor!

They went with the collar pins, black belt and Navy blue (black really, like the dress blues). I've had that uniform for a while. It has raised a big stink among the upper enlisted with us wearing khaki. That has always been reserved for chiefs and officers. Getting your khakis has always been a landmark in the Navy.
So since they complained about that they said "Ok will give you your own uniform." That's how the dress khaki came to be brought back. Of course it's expensive as hell and chiefs and officer have to buy their own uniforms so.... There is also works on updating the dress uniforms. They will be adding zippers on the uniforms (top and bottoms) and the 13 button fly will be ornamental. They will also be bringing back the dress white. What they currently call the dress white is the WWII undressed whites. It won't have the solid blue flap but they will be bringing back the fitted cuffs and the blue piping. This was a legacy of our last CNO. It started one because he hates the dungerees. He also disliked have different uniforms for enlisted and officers. He is going for more of a national uniform. I feel that eventually we will have one working uniform and one service uniform for all militaries with each having their own dress uniforms. US is the only country that doesn't issues "theater" uniforms. When the Marine MARPAT came out there were issues with the medics and religious in the Navy that serve with them. They were always allowed to wear the Marine uniforms but for the dress. When the MARPAT came out it was classified as a Marine only uniform. This left the medics in woodland and VERY obvious in the field. Jim __________________ I cook with a flair for the dramatic, and depraved indifference to calories |

I would have much rather had them than my dungarees anyday. You will like the bdu style uniform a lot more to. Easier to take care of. I was issued a bunch when I was on the amphib base in coronado, because we all had to look the same. They held up a lot better than dungarees.
