Two new ones
IMG_0027.jpg
The first one is a seax that started out to be something else but changed it's mind. The blade is ll" long, 1 1/2" wide at the handle and 1/8" thick for most of the lenth of the blade. It was forged from 9260 and was marquenched at 500 degrees and tempered three, two hours cycles at 425 degrees. The handle is 8" long and made of maple with a linseed oil finish. IMG_0028.jpg IMG_0029.jpg The next two pictures are of a spear point knife forged from 52100. The bade is 5 1/4" long, 1" wide, and 3/16" thick at the ricasso tapering to the point. It was ausquenched at 400 degrees for one hour and then given one two hour cylce at 425. The bolster and butt cap are of brass with 1/8" mosiac pins. The handle is of rosewood with a red spacer between two black spacers at the bolster and a single black space at the butt cap. The scales were secured with a 1/4" mosiac pin. I put a nice palm swell in the handle and carried the lines of it through the bolster and butt cap as illustrated in the top view of the knife. Both blades retained a hair shaving edge after being used to chop a 2X4 and cut a free standing water bottle leaving the botton standing on the porch rail with water standing in them.
