Thats one of Bill Moran's blades. Bill founded the American Bladesmith Society. You've got a real collectable there.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I actually read up on him before posting this and gathered it was pretty special. Unfortunately I don't know much about knives. Is this a particular "kind" of knife? Any idea on age? From what I've read it was some of his earlier work by the inscription. It was my grandfathers and I have no idea how he acquired it and unfortunately have no way of finding out now.
Thanks again!

I know enough about Bill Moran to worship his work, but not much past that. Some of the guys here may have actually know Mr. Moran. Hopefully, one of them will chime in.
Whatever the backstory on your knife, it's awesome, and I wish I had one.

What you have there is what Bill called a Rio Grande camp knife, and it looks to be a very early one at that. Wes

Whatever you do, DO NOT mess with it! By that I mean DO NOT try to "clean it up".....don't sand on it, don't try to "polish" it or anything else, otherwise you will destroy the value. Just speculation on my part, but I suspect what you have there would be worth $10,000+ to the right collector.
I've been around long enough that I knew Bill....he was an ambassador for the Knife World. Kind, open, and just a gentleman in every respect. His knives are some of the most expensive in the collector arena.

I just used a little polish and my Dremel tool on it a little bit. I'm kidding! Thanks for the advice. I won't touch it!! And thanks for the information! 10k plus? Wow. I'm shocked.

Thanks! FYI: It has a leather sheath with it as well. I just left it out of the picture.
