Which Steel Is Best For A Blade?
I am wanting to buy a fillet knife from the company Knives of Alaska. I am having trouble figuring out whether to get a 440C or a AUS-8A blade. I was wondering if anyone can give me advice on this.

Those two steels are very similar. You'd probably never notice the difference. Both have about 1% carbon. 440C has about 17% chromium; AUS-8A has about 14.5%. What AUS-8A has that sets it apart is about .25% vanadium.

Glad TexasJack was here to answer this one. I learned this from him the other day. I prefer 440c or VG-10. But I have a couple with AUS-8 and didn't know my self that it was close to 440c
