Medium Tactical-Art Fighter

Hi Folks,

Thought I'd post some pictures of a fighter I made last year. I call it a "Tactical-Art" knife because it is carried by its owner on his job and can be used in a tactical situation if need be (along with his handgun).

The blade is about 6" long and flat ground from a billet forged for me by Tom Ferry. I carved and textured the fittings from bronze and made a cabochon from fossil ivory for the finial. The handle is fossil walrus ivory. I made a sheath for this knife by laminating calf skin over both sides of Kydex sheet and sewing them to a leather welt. It has a titanium belt clip for inside the pants carry.

If I shorten the name by combining "tactical" with "art" does that make this knife a "Tart"? Oh, never mind! Enjoy the pictures.

David

Very nice Dave! You work is first class all the way. I would like to see the sheath if you have pics of it.

Thanks for the compliments. I really appreciate them.

I don't have a picture of the sheath, Kirby. It was really a simple one. I used .060" Kydex for some rigidity (and so he wouldn't stab himself in the butt), and bonded 2-3 oz calf skin to each side with Barge Cement. I forged 6-4 titanium into a narrow clip that resembles the commercial boot knife clips, and set it under the outer layer of leather. From there it was just like making any other full welted sheath - glue it up, grind the edges, drill holes and sew it. No keeper - belt tension keeps the knife inside.

Who said practical can't be pretty? Always a pleasure to see your work. The finish on the bronze is incredible.
