"Old" 1970's Joe Kious Slipjoint
Hello,
I'm not sure if this is considered "old", but its about as old as me, so I consider it old! Heres a little knife I own. Its a 1970's Joe Kious. I emailed with Joe and got the details about it and he was very upset that it looked unused as he said it was not intended to be a piece that is stored, but rather used. Interesting to look at this and compare with his current folders, which are hundreds of times more complex! Ive been thinking of selling this to fund myself some sort of nice forge, but I just can't bring myself to part with it.... |

Great knife! Brings a question to my mind, I wonder how far back file work goes? I'm not sure I've seen any past this time period, then again, there may be a lot of it out there. (I'm speaking of this type of filework show on the above folder. I'm sure that fixed blades have been embellished on the spine for a long time)

i posted a photo of a file worked knife dated 1740-1760 in the fine embellishment forum over a year ago. the photo link is now dead, but file work is still alive.

Update: If any collectors are looking to purchase an eary example of a Kious Slipjoint, I will be selling this piece shortly to partially fund the purchase of a KMG grinder and other tools. PM me if you want higher res pics or want to make an offer prior to it hitting the ebay marketplace.

Yahoo!
I'm extremely happy to announce that this old Kious now lives with me! It came in the mail yesterday and I thank the previous owner kindly for allowing me to adopt this little jewel. Joe Kious lives just a very few miles from me and I took it up to his shop for a little reunion this morning. I sent Darren a knife today for some engraving (a Kious also) and when it gets back this one will be headed to Billings, MT for a little dress up at the hands of Darren.
