Cypress?

Picked up some cypress recently, and was wondering if anyone has used it for handles, and what kind of finish works best on it?

Since no one else has responded I'll just say that cypress is commonly used as decking material so its easy to find all sorts of finishing information just by googling. Apparently, oil finishes are preferred ....

Cypress is a family of mostly trees but some shrubs so knowing the species would be important. Being a conifer I would think that the wood is relatively soft like pine. That makes me think that stabilization could be in order for best performance.

Pretty sure it's cajun swamp cypress. Very popular around these parts for pretty much everything from decking to cabinets. Def gonna stabilize the older pieces, but I have some boards that are in great shape, def harder than pine. I got some nice maple and oak with very interesting grain structure. Guy is selling it CHEAP so I'm gonna try to go pick through it some more.

Too soft unless stabilized, so that is the way to go. Not much in the way of figure or color, but go for it if you want. I'd do the first knife as a user/ beater to see how it turns out and works for you, durability wise.
Might surprise me, but my guess is it won't be much for show. Cut several thousand board feet of the stuff when I was much younger.
