I think you guys might be missing a simple thing here. When you do the weld that close to the blade, how are you going to draw the hardness out of the weld joint so that is is not so brittle as to break again under stress? The weld will be very close to the highest stress area on a blade of that design (when in use). Without re-heattreating the entire blade (of unknown steel alloy) the stress set up by the weld will likely fail under any serious use.
Bottom line...why go to all that effort to get a plausably usable knife back in service. Effort and time wasted wouldnot be a good trade off.
But....your knife and time.

The blade is 440c. I'm looking at it from a welders perspective so I probably am wrong. But its a free test blade that I'm going to have to weld to if I want to make it a knife again. Worst that happens is it falls apart and ill have another one from the replacement knifekits is sending me.
