"Good" to myself/ Randall #4-6, #6 grind

Fellow Randall knife freaks,
The "Tide Man" is, once again, going to assist me with "snapshots". This particular Randall is still available! As a matter of fact, this very one shown here was on my last order. A lot of folks have never seen one, so I thought I would picture this one and offer a brief explanation. I don't make it a habit of "showing" off my collection. All of the posts and pics today were, either a follow up to a previous post/ thread, or used as a matter of information. I "do", however, like incredible stag, as you folks might recall from some of my previous posts. This one was a "no-brainer"! When I felt/ purchased this crown stag, there was no doubt in my mind which model I would put it on!
Pictured is a Model #4-6", with a #6 grind! This forging is offered through the Randall shop, but in carbon steel only (01 Swedish Tool Steel). I wish it were available in stainless...but...oh well! A long time ago, I believe it was on our first "build" or so, on this very forum, I hinted around about my favorite Randall model. I told several I would eventually mention it on this forum. THIS IS IT!! Oh sure, I "use" the shorter blades a good bit more, but I just like the overall "everything" about this knife. It is slightly "lighter" than standard model #4-6 and (fill in the blank) cuts, grips, skins, tears into a ribeye, etc. much better. It will "lay down" and filet far better than many models. It looks to have tha Scagel influence and has a huge amount of cutting surface for big game skinning!
The specifications for this particular one are as follows:
A) Special forge , #6 grind
B) Long finger choil
C) Thumb notches
D) Nickel silver single hilt
E) Square top
F) Aluminum and black spacers
G) CW(Customer supplied handle material)
H) Model "A" sheath
I) No hone pocket
I hope you all like this fine Randall. If you do not, I hope you at least learned about a fairly scarce "current-issue" Randall. This one isn't going anywhere. Now and then, I'm very good to myself. Of course this brings up another whole problem. I am a known thief, as I steel from myself. I don't know whether to fire myself or give myself a raise so I can afford to buy from myself!!
Best, Captain Chris Stanaback
Photos are in the next post below.

Well Cap, merry Christmas and happy birthday to you from you on that one! Superb color and Gnarly stag! Bo would have loved that one and patted Gary on the back and taken the guys in the shop out to lunch for putting that one in the hands of a fan. And it's made of real steel too!

Capt.,
After seeing these Pics, I finally decided what I am going to order now.
This Model #4 - 6" with the #6 Grind.

BTW Capt. - Looks like you got more than 6 Options there, but you probably "Snuck It In Under the Wire", before the Limit was set.

Mike

Talking

Capt.,

The red stag is Great. Many off us really like that color in stag.

I really only have 1 red stag, and that is the first thread knife. (3-5") Wish I had more.

Thanks for showing us the great picts!

This knife might make good "trade bait".

Kent

Cap,

That is one Bo-dacious knife! I honestly don't know how you can have so many great Randalls go through your hands without keeping more than you do. This one is certainly worth holding on to. Congratulations

Ron

Hi Cap!

The crown stag is very impressive looking!

However it reminds me of some similar handles that I've seen in a well known Randall eBay Store, where the sellers describes the stag as "dyed". Is this the case with yours, or is it the natural colour? (Sorry, but I has to ask.)

Cheers!

Moosehead.

The "Crown"

Moose,
Thanks to all for the comments and...yes Mike...I got your email. To address the question of dyed crown stag, the short answer is- I don't really know. but the long and short of it is: I don't really care! This crown has the characteristics, size, feel, as well as length and diameter that I needed for this "exact" Randall knife. If it is dyed, at least in this particular case, I believe it was orange to begin with and perhaps augmented by the process. Whatever the case, I get a good deal of knives made up for that fella you are talking about and this piece is definately "different". Best, Captain Chris Stanaback
P.S. Mike: The order date for this Randall was 08/02/02. I think it is safe to say this Model #4-6" was "in the works" prior to the "option limitation"! CCS

I guess it's like me: "Only my antlerdresser knows for sure..."

Cheers

Capt.,
You mean to tell me with all the Juice & Points you have down in Orlando that you had to wait 4 Years to get your own Randall Blade? That just "Ain't Right"!!!!
