UPDATE NOTES:

Tomorrow 1-08-2011..I take a video of the hardening of the blade, tempering of
the blade, and video an abuse test to make sure it holds up, and stays razor
sharp after the chop abuse test, and then
install the blade, and it's done! Waiting for the wife to make a sheath for it.
If anyone is interested
in this skinner please let me know. I am pricing it at 150+S\H$. It includes
the compass you seen in one
video, and also a magnesium
striker(fire starter).

Here I am bending the guard. I made from the top of a stainless spoon.
I buy spoons at thrift\goodwill stores for this use. I can forge them
but if I find a spoon\fork with an engraving I like I keep it that way.
Makes a one of a kind knife with added character.

Here I am normalizing the blade for the first time. I did not
video the other two times I normalized to magnetic north.

Select 1080p

FINALLY....**UPDATED PICTURES OF IT COMPLETED. ALSO VIDEO of Completed knife.** Will be working on the sheath when my wife has time!

Video of the knife completed.

My wife will be working on the sheath throughout this week.
We have an idea to darken the sheath to the same color as the knifes
handle leather the dark red\dark brown mixture. We will use reddish leather. Darken it
with leather ink. Then scuff the leather with sand paper to bring out the red underneath
to get a great match. Going for the worn look.

Unless I can sale this knife. I wont be making another one any time soon. The charcoal
is whats costing me and being the most pain. Spent 40$ alone in burning wood, and making
my own charcoal on making this knife alone.

NOTE: *******************************************

At the bottom is a beer bottle top opener I hand filed.
For when your skinning, and get thirsty!

Yet another example of how you don't necessarily need 1000's of dollars worth of tools to make a knife...

That's a very interesting anvil you have there as well...

One question: Why not mount your vice and/or anvil to a sturdy base? You'd expend a heck of a lot less energy to get the same amount of work done, since most of it won't be absorbed into movement/bouncing of the vice or anvil. Just a thought.

I will be posting an edit to this master post of the finished product here in about 8 minutes.

I have an anvil at this hardware store that Ive been drooling over in which is around 100$. It's iron and not steel so it will have a little more bounce, and not so much transfer of power into the edge, but thats alright I will work with it It's better than this weight plate LOL. Every knife I manage to sell pays for more files if I wear them out, and I'm looking to buy this 55lb or 90lb anvil that has a hardy hole. Perfect for me for now. I'm not doing swords..... yet

So If I can sell this knife. I am going to use the money
to buy the anvil. Pay for some more charcoal, and onto
making the next knife. My chainsaw ran out so I'm
having to pay for charcoal out of hand. I'm tired of
using my axe, but at the same time the axe keeps
me in good health is how I look at it. Just sucks.. so
some times I pay for wood when people have it for
sale and super cheap!

****************SOLD***************

I sold this knife with the deer bone handle + diamond sharpener, + the compass, + the magnesium fire striker + all the video files copied onto a disk in order fashion for a price that I am comfortible with, but didnt really make a whole lot of money on.

All through craigslist. Within 4 hours of posting I had three calls at around 9:30pm. It being too late they wanted to come tomorrow. Well this guy is from cibilo texas, nearly 2 hour drive from me who wanted it the worst to the point at 7:00am this morning he showed up with cash in hand to beat out the other customers. Which leaves me to talk with the others when they call on making them their own custom made knife.

I will tell you what if I didnt sell this knife it would have been a while before I smashed out another one. Selling this knife just has me so very motivated. Today I take the money from this knife I sold, and finally.. have enough saved to buy this anvil from a local farrier. It's a 55lb anvil. I'm going to take a few weight plates. Some concrete, and a small steel tomson water seal barrel, and concrete about 120lbs of weight into it with the anvil on top.

By Gosh I think I'm good at making 5160 knives. I had
allot of self doubts, but all the phone calls from buyers
has changed my look on what I do!\

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

FEELS GREAT!

**Thanks Tim Lively, and Tai Goo**
