A big mess...

Well sort of. I just recently finished a big sheath for a big knife (or a short sword). I turned out fine, except for one thing. The stain is coming off all over the Ivory Micarta handles!

I've never had this problem before, but I never used Ivory Micarta before (it shows everything); still I think it's more than just the Micarta. The leather is "dirty" with stain.

I dyed the sheath red-brown, airbrushed it darker with black (all Fiebling's dye). Let it dry for a day, then coated it with the beeswax/neatsfoot oil mix.

So why is it still rubbing off? I can take a paper towel and rub it on the outside and it will turn black. Any ideas? Also, what can I do to make it stop! I don't want to have to scrub the Ivory Micarta every time I use the sheath!

Thanks in advance...

John-

Give me a shout by phone 970-259-8396. I've got a couple of other questions (that may lead to more). Anyway I can probably help - it's a big OOPS! but it may be able to be fixed without too much hassle.

Chuck
