Gaucho Sheath

I'm so glad I opened to the Gallery tonight !! Thanks for some inspiring eye candy -- I've never seen that sheath style before -- beautiful worksmanship

Thank you very much for your kind words, Mike.
The sheath is sewed with tientos (strands of raw colt leather), central and edges seams and the button is woven with tientos. The sheath is made with raw cow leather knife shaved. The handle is also woven with tientos. Tileforo Last edited by tileforo; 03-14-2005 at 05:37 PM. |

holy sh*^ dud , that is really some handle - how'd you do it ? that really looks beautiful - must have taken you quite a while to do it . and where are you getting raw leather , and why ? lots of questions , glad you showed us this one . paul

I'm from Argentina and this's a typical argentinian ( gaucho) craft. Making a handle and the sheath take me almost a fortnight. 1) The cow hide is taken from a just dead animal, the fat is removed and is shaved with a kinfe. |

3) It's moisten and (something like kneaded) to soften.

a) You follow the steps 1 and 2 for the cow hide. b) Get the tientos. |

That is a very interesting little device you have attached to the knife to cut strips (number 11), could we see another picture of it from a couple of different angles?
