We started the grinder build today.

Here are pics of what my friend and I got done today, we ran into some tracking problems so we will try and resolve that problem tomorrow, I think the flange bearings are just a little out of alignment.

Here's a few more pics, all that's left is putting some plate on the sides to cover my screw up and paint , we had to move the bearings back a little, everything seems to be tracking good now but I haven't hooked the motor to it yet.

I'm going to build a stand for it and mount the motor under the grinder.

Pretty serious cant on that idler wheel. May change when you power-up.
Let us know how the shock adsorber works out.
Did notice the depression/release handle for belt installment sticks out a lot toward the front. Will it get in the way of any slackbelt use? I always manage to find a way to work on something so that things like that get in my way, but that's just me.
Let's see it in action.

I'm not totally done yet and I'm sure I will run into more problems, I'm going to mock up the platen setup tonight and make any modifications that need to be made.

All in all I'm happy with it, but... I haven't motored it up yet either.

Well, I did some more work today. I tried the platen and like Crex mentioned I had to shorten the handle. I also shortened the receiver tube and cut the wheel tube shorter. The tracking was out of wack and I was able to get it looking a whole lot better.

Here's some updated pics, tomorrow I start on the stand.

Did you make the pulleys that the sanding belt rides on or did you buy them somewhere?

That's a cracking looking grinder. I wish I had the equipment to make one like that. As I have no welding equipment, and only access to scrap steel, mine is a little different. If you want a really good laugh, I'll show you!
