Center drills

Anybody know what size center drill to use to spot the hole for a 1/16" detent ball. Don Robinson uses a .0595 drill for this in his video. I've never used center drills before. Thanks guys!

Use the smallest size center drill. Just make a small spot with the very tip of the center drill. The spot should be smaller than the drill size for the hole.

This forces the drill used for the detent to follow the center.

Thanks Don. I'll try and get some pics posted on my progress. It's my first liner lock. So far so good. Just about to cut the lock. Second question, do you use HSS bits or cobalt or carbide? I broke a cheapie 1/16" bit in the Titanium. That stuff is unbelievable to drill.

I use anything except carbide. Most of my drills are cheap imports.

Your drill broke because it was either dull or more probably, you used too much speed. Titanium is one of the toughest materials to drill, so you have to go slow and easy. Don't let the drill dwell or it will burn.

Yeah, by all means let us see it when it's finished.

Then a 1.5 mm jobber drill bit to open the hole in the liner where your detent ball is going to go in.
