You know, it might make an interesting new thread if someone would start "The knives I've sold from my pocket".
As someone said above, they want the one you have, not the one you'll build for them.

Don when I buy a full shell and then cut it up I normally use the belt to take off the back and then flatten by hand as stated earlier. sometimes you gat a good shell and sometimes you get a not so great shell. The last Black Lip that I got had over1/16" of clear jelly after I took off the calcium off of the outside. Great black lip is hard to come by and worth the premium. But if you buy the whole shell then you can cut to size for larger handles.
Just my two cents.

Well, it's already gone!
I should have known!
That barlow sold yesterday out of my pocket to a walk-in. :eek
But that's OK. I'm working on another one for me that's a little smaller, lighter, no bolsters, that'll be too ugly for anyone else!
Just a knife, nothing extra, with a red linen micarta handle.

Don, it doesn't matter how "ugly" you make a knife, someone will buy it, somewhere, sometime, sooner or later.

And the rest of the story: see the new thread above labeled "Help me out with these".

Another One That Was Supposed To Be Just For Me
Don, here is another one that turned out so beautiful that I just decided to keep it for myself, at least until I was offered $500 for it. It did get a good home though.

That is a beauty, Gil! I don't blame you for keeping it.
