6al4v titanium liners and bolsters adonized gold

Andy,

That's excellent work. How smooth did the action turn out?

Thanks everyone for the comments and words of encouragement.

Alex, the lock up is rock solid and the action is very smooth due to the Nylotron washers. I nearly filed to much of the end of the lock but managed to get it back by stretching the lock by using a flat ended punch on a very large piece of steel!!!
The anodizing was done with an old charger designed for army RT equipment. I opened the case and managed to find a variable resistor that varied the voltage fron about 6V DC to 19V DC at 3 amps I can get colors from straw to purple.
The electrolyt was Diet Coke !!!

Starting number 2 this weekend. more to follow!!!

Nice looking piece Andy, if you perservere you'll find that your lines will gradually start to change and generally the knives you make will reflect your personality and will be readily be identified. Keep up the good work.

Regards from Australia.

work in progress

Thanks Neil, looking back on my first liner lock I can see all the mistakes and have used the experiance to good advantage on my number 2 knife. here is a picture of my work in progress, blade needs grinding and I have yet to decide on the material for the scales.
I have profiled the bolsters better than the first and used a larger pivot from Les Halpern( very nice !!).
The spacer is also Ti and I have used nylotron washers between blade and liners.
Even though the scales hav'nt been fitted the knife feels much better in the hand than number 1.
Work on this one has come to a bit of a stand still while I build my new grinder, got an 8" contact wheel a couple of weeks ago, looking forward to learning hollow grinding :-)

Thanks for looking:-

Well, it depends on how you want to look at it. If it's going to be a user, I would go with Micarta or G10. Carbon Fiber can also be nice if you bead blast it so it has some grip to it. A little more upscale and a good hardwood might be the ticket. Desert Ironwood? Ok I haven't been that much help have I

Re: work in progress

Thanks Jerry

Any comments and sugestions are allways welcome.
I took the plunge and ordered a set of pearl and some micarta from texas knife last night. I will make my mind up when it arrives.
As I am trying to make the best possible with the best materials that I have I think the pearl would make a great looking knife.
I will post a picture in the Display Forum when it's finished.

Re: work in progress

Andy, when working pearl make sure your drills are sharp and it might pay to put some masking tape as backing on the pearl when you drill (stops it chipping when the drill breaks out of the pearl).
Have fun.....
